Caring for Your Jewelry

A Little Care Goes a Long Way

Every piece of Acacia Anderberg Silver is handcrafted with natural turquoise and sterling silver. Because each stone is unique and each piece is made by hand, your jewelry deserves a little care to keep it beautiful for years to come.

Turquoise naturally varies in color, texture, and matrix, while sterling silver will naturally develop a patina over time. These changes are part of the character and beauty of handmade jewelry.

Caring for Your Turquoise

Turquoise is a beautiful natural stone, but it can be sensitive to moisture, chemicals, and oils.

Keep your turquoise away from:

  • Perfume and body sprays

  • Lotions and oils

  • Hairspray and cosmetics

  • Cleaning products and chemicals

  • Chlorine and swimming pools

  • Salt water

  • Prolonged exposure to water

We recommend removing turquoise jewelry before showering, swimming, bathing, exercising, or doing household chores.

When you're finished wearing your piece, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth before storing it.

Never soak turquoise in water or jewelry-cleaning solutions. Harsh cleaners and prolonged exposure to moisture can affect the stone's appearance.

Caring for Your Sterling Silver

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air, moisture, oils, and certain chemicals. This is completely normal and does not mean your jewelry is damaged.

To keep your silver looking its best:

  • Wipe your jewelry gently with a soft, dry polishing cloth.

  • Store pieces in a cool, dry place when you're not wearing them.

  • Keep jewelry separated to help prevent scratches and tangling.

  • Avoid storing silver in humid areas such as bathrooms.

  • Consider storing pieces in an airtight jewelry bag or container when not in use.

For pieces containing turquoise, do not use liquid silver dips or harsh chemical jewelry cleaners. These products can damage or alter natural turquoise.

Putting Your Jewelry On & Taking It Off

Handmade jewelry should be treated gently.

When putting on or removing your jewelry, avoid pulling, twisting, or applying unnecessary pressure to the piece. Be especially mindful of delicate silverwork, chains, clasps, and stone settings.

It's also a good idea to put your jewelry on after applying perfume, lotion, makeup, or hairspray.

When You're Not Wearing It

Proper storage can make a big difference.

Keep your jewelry in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Store pieces individually when possible so that stones and silver do not rub against one another.

A soft jewelry pouch or lined jewelry box works wonderfully.

A Note About Natural Turquoise

No two pieces of turquoise are exactly alike.

Natural turquoise can have variations in color, matrix, texture, and pattern. Some stones may change subtly over time as they are exposed to natural oils from your skin and the environment.

These characteristics are not flaws—they are part of what makes natural turquoise so special.

Your piece was created to be worn and enjoyed. With a little care, it can become something you treasure for many years to come.
